Fitou is half way between the Languedoc towns of Perpignan and Narbonne.  All the local beaches have EEC Blue Flag accreditation.  The area is a major windsurfing centre and offers a wide range of water sports.  The town is most suitable for couples and families, but may not provide the right entertainment for young singles.  As the area is the southernmost corner of France and enjoys the one of its mildest climates, the villa is ideal for an out of season visit.  We often have visitors during the autumn and spring.

Fitou is in the heart of the Fitou and Corbières wine producing regions and offer excellent opportunities for walks, cycle rides or drives through breathtaking scenery of vineyards, mountains, pretty villages and ruined chateaux.

If you want to take an organised tour then try Experience Languedoc, which is owned and run by neighbours of ours in Fitou (click the name to go to their web site).

Here are some links to maps showing you where our seaside villa is located.  This link shows the area from Narbonne to Perpignan, and this link is zoomed in on our area of Port Leucate - our villa is on the Mediterranean side of the road which leads up to the opening to the channel in the centre of this map.  Use the + and - buttons on the left to zoom in and out.

Below is the nearby Port Leucate's marina in the evening  - there is a lively family atmosphere with many restaurants and shops as well as stalls on the quayside.  You can rent a boat for a day's excursion or take a trip on a sailing ship.  Here is a view over the lake towards the hills of the village of Fitou a few miles away.

This is the village of Fitou, about half a mile from our 3-bedroom villa:

The villa is easily reached from Perpignan and Carcassonne airports (30 minutes and an hour respectively), with direct access by car from the A9 and N9.  Leucate station is just a few miles away, on the Mediterranean coast main line.
